From Precious Gemstones to Agricultural Pioneers
Ellawala Horticulture (Pvt) Ltd is a wholly owned subsidiary of Ellawala Exports (Pvt) Ltd, a company established in 1978 that became one of Sri Lanka’s leading exporters of gemstones and gem-set jewellery, earning numerous Presidential Export Awards.
In 1992, the Group diversified into agriculture through the establishment of Ellawala Horticulture and the development of Dambewatana Farm, now widely known as the “Ellawala Farm,” with a focus on mango cultivation for export.
A pioneer in Sri Lankan agriculture, Ellawala Horticulture introduced the TomEJC mango and was the first in the country to undertake commercial mango cultivation using modern technologies and farming methods. Building on its agricultural expertise, the company expanded into food processing in 2012 and today operates a state-of-the-art facility with five production lines—pulping, canning, cooking, freezing, and dehydrating—while providing employment to around 150 people, the majority of whom are women from surrounding communities.
